What is an Escape Room?

An escape room is a physical adventure game in which players enter a themed room and must use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles, riddles, and challenges in order to progress through and eventually “escape”, all within a 60 minute time limit.

How early should we arrive?

Here, at Behind the Iron Gate, we ask that you arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to your reservation. We do not have a waiting room or lobby, so, before or after your game, we suggest that you take the opportunity to check out some of the great local shops, restaurants and other establishments on the new Mill St. Prominade like, Back in the Day Antiques, Sergio’s Cafe, Vintage on Mill, Gary’s Place, The Del Oro Theater, Gather & Mill, Vintage on Mill, Lola and Jack, Yuba Blue, Good Times, Mac & Miller, Foothill Mercantile, La Te Da, Meze, Native Wren, Element, Moms & Minis, and so many more.

How many people can participate in an Escape Room game?

The number of participants may vary from room to room, but typically, you can have a group of 2 to 8 players. Some escape rooms may allow larger groups. Here, at Behind the Iron Gate, rooms are designed for 4 to 8 players.

What is the price of an Escape Room game?

What should I wear to play in an Escape Room?

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, as you may need to move around and solve puzzles. High heels and formal wear are not recommended.

Are Escape Rooms suitable for all ages?

Behind the Iron Gate’s escape rooms are designed for players aged 12 and up. Due to the nature, complexity & props in our escape rooms, they are not suitable for younger children. Our escape rooms are not appropriate for children under 8 years of age. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Anyone under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign a waiver.

How long does an Escape Room game last?

Games typically last for 60 minutes, with additional time for briefing and debriefing. Plan for about 75 minutes in total.

Are Escape Rooms safe?

Yes, our rooms are designed to be safe. You can exit the room at any time, and our staff is monitoring via CCTV cameras & available to assist if needed. (Be advised, exiting the room does NOT pause or stop the game timer)

Can I bring my own team, or will I be placed with strangers?

You can book a theme for your own private group. Please see our (Book Now) for minimum / maximum group size for each theme.

What if I can’t solve a puzzle or get stuck?

Don’t worry! Our staff can provide hints or clues to help you progress through the game. The goal is to have fun and enjoy the experience. Be sure to pay close attention during briefing for clues, info and other details, as well as theme specific rules or exits.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of participants for each room?

Yes, each room has a minimum and maximum capacity. Please check the room details or the (Book Now) page for this information.

Can I take photos or videos during the game?

Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the private rooms to maintain the element of surprise for future players.

Are Escape Rooms wheelchair accessible?

Due to the historic nature of our location, we are unable to provide access to our second level / upstairs venue. We sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience.
